This unique township located 612 klms north of Adelaide, remains the same since the discovery of opal in 1930. During our discussions with long time residents, we heard amazing stories of peoples quest to make their fortunes plus the quality of the Andamooka opal which is noted to be the most stable of all opals. The cultural mix was diverse with migrants from around the world and other Australian states and territories. Many historical cottages are still in the township and a visit is most interesting. With a semi desert environment, you may see the local fauna ranging from Emus, Goannas, Wedge Tailed Eagles, Kangaroos and a variety of bird species.
